The presence of the Lord abounds to all places.
Romans 5:1-2 – Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
The Lord is not bound by time or space because His bounds know no limits. God is “omnipresent” – a word used to indicate that God’s presence is everywhere. Paul recalls the omnipresence of God in his sermon on Mars Hill as he challenges his audience to seek God because “he [God] be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being;” (Acts 17:27-28). The fact that the Lord is always present stands to assure those seeking Him that He can be found! The Lord makes Himself available to all people who long to enjoy His presence.
Practical Applications and Considerations
Take comfort in God’s presence! One of the most beautiful illustrations of the Lord’s presence is that of the Shepherd. As David explained in Psalm 23, the Lord is present in all places from “the green pastures” to “the still waters” to “the valley of the shadow of death” and even to “the house of the Lord.” His presence provides constant comfort so that the believer “shall not want.” God’s presence assures the believer of His reality so that he will “fear no evil.” It is because of the Lord’s omnipresence that each believer can know with certainty that “goodness and mercy shall follow [them] all the days of [their] life.” To know the closeness of the Shepherd is to know security, find rest, discover assurance, and know peace. In fact, God has even given us His Spirit to indwell us at all times (Ephesians 1:13-14). Believers can rejoice as they consciously recognize the nearness of God. Have you paused today to thank God for his calming and comforting presence in your life?
Take caution in your practices! No one can hide from the presence of the Lord. The Lord sees all that we do because He is present to observe the righteousness and the unrighteousness, our good and our bad (Psalm 11:4). When Adam and Eve fell to sin in the Garden, God was aware of the change in their nature (Genesis 3:9) as a result of their behavior (Genesis 3:11). Have you practiced restraint as you recall God is present to see and hear all you do and say?
Take courage in your problems! God is ever present with us, and that assures the believer that He is next to him at all times. Even in the farthest reaches of the world, God is there! Whatever challenge you find yourself facing today, God is with you to be a help. We can come boldly to God’s throne to find grace to help in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16). No matter where you may find yourself, you always have access into the presence of God through faith (Romans 5:1-2). Have you sought God’s guidance for the challenges that you are facing?
Personal Courage – We can demonstrate personal courage as we face physical or emotional adversity. Christians gain boldness to face adversity because of the abiding presence of God in our lives. Because of the Holy Spirit dwells with us, we can demonstrate courage with the aid of God’s grace! Situations in life can be challenging, but God can give us the courage to face any adversity.
